Rare Cased London Armoury Co. Kerr's Patent Percussion Revolver

The Kerr revolvers were designed by James Kerr (patent no. 1722 of July 28, 1855) and were manufactured c. 1859-1866 by the London Armoury Company in which Kerr served as factory superintendent. The majority of the Kerr revolvers were exported for use in the American Civil War, with small numbers purchased for use by the Union and around 7,000 revolvers purchased by the Confederacy as Caleb Huse contracted for 100% of the L.A.C. production which also included rifle-muskets. With the end of the Civil War and the defeat of the Confederacy, the London Armoury Company lost its major customer and closed within a year. This revolver dates to c. 1865-1866 and revolver features a brass post front sight, "L.A.C." on the upper left barrel flat, London proof marks, "LONDON/ARMOURY" on the left side of the frame, "LONDON ARMOURY CO" on the back action lock, "KERR'S PATENT. 10,699" on the right side of the frame, some light border engraving, and a checkered walnut grip with pommel cap and lanyard ring. It comes in a fitted oak case with vacant brass lid escutcheon, London Armoury trade label, loading/cleaning rod with covered worm, capper, Hawksley oiler and powder flask, London Armory Company 54 bore double cavity bullet mold, turnscrew, nipple wrench, bullets, Eley Bros. cap tin, and key.

Class: Antique

Very good with 70% original blue finish, traces of original case colors, gray and brown patina on the balance, light pitting and oxidation, and general mild overall wear. The grip is also very good with distinct checkering and dings and scratches. Mechanically fine. The case and accessories are also very good and have age and storage related wear.
