Automobile, 1966 Mustang 2-Door Hardtop. In its brief 3 year history, the 1966 was the most popular Ford Mustang. That year the "Pony Car" class of cars marked the creation of the millionth Mustang and offered a few improvements over the previous two years. One of those improvements was the C4 "Cruise-O-Matic" three speed automatic transmission that became available on the 225hp 289ci V8. This Mustang has that upgrade. It also has a nice selection of other interior upgrades and features. Interior shows the bucket seats, instrument cluster, the standard Mustang/Shelby door handles, the wood-grained steering wheel, full length console and seat belts! The Shelby type Mustang hood scoop was added later and sure adds to the look! Everything you need for the All American Sports Car! This beauty started out costing about $2,400 before adding options. As you can see....this one has a nice selection of options. Ford introduced their Mustang on October 1, 1965, on the same day as all other Fords. Model year production hit 607,568 Mustangs with the car acquiring an amazing 7.1 percent share of all American car sales. This version was about 400,000 of that total production. When you start sorting by original color, engine & transmission options and then interior features, this exact mustang becomes a sizeably smaller number! Exploring the VIN number codes on 6R07C23791 tells us more. This car was early in the production run showing it was number 23,791 and built in San Jose, CA. So it's a California car from the '60's! And the "C" code engine verifies the Windsor 289. This one with the 4 barrel carb, likely added later. This "Pony Car" is in excllent running condition and could be ready for a road trip back to its roots in San Jose! Odometer reads just 32,253 miles.
