Automobile, 1951 Chevrolet Styleline Deluxe 2-Door Coupe. Anyone who liked the sound of Ford Flatheads understand this. The sound of a Chevy flathead with splits makes its own kind of music, just as sweet. Doug Gethmann has fond memories of that "Music".   "Before I could drive", he says, "...a guy I knew from Gladbrook had a '49 Chevy Fleetwood Fastback with splits and straight pipes.  It was gray with a white dragon pinstriped on the trunk lid.  Coolest car I had ever seen.  On Wednesday nights there was always a dance, and later some kind of a teen rumble or fight in Garwin." Doug lived in between.  He went on, "I would go outside about 6:00 and listen for those straight pipes roaring out of Gladbrook.  He would pass my house with his horn blaring and I could hear him all the way to Garwin." That may have been an alert to what was coming. The weekend event came to a predictable ending Doug says. "Then, about 10:30, after the cops broke up all the fights I could hear him heading home to Gladbrook.  And I thought someday I had to have a Chevy with splits."  When Doug came home from Viet Nam a friend sold him a '55 Chevy short box pickup.  It had a Corvette split manifold.  As with all the other cool stuff I had he sold it.  Then he ran across this '51 Deluxe Coupe.  Having a fondness for Chevy coupes more so than the sedan, plus it had an Offenhauser dual carb split manifold, he had to have it!  It's now painted a super fine metalflake dark blue.  It drives and rides great and has power steering.  The interior is done in gray with Chevy Bowties on the seat back.  When you step on the gas the glass pacs sing their unique 6 cylinder tune.  You'll agree, it's a hoot to drive, definitely a looker and has turn signals and backup lights so Grandma can handle it too! VIN# 6JKE36900. Odometer shows 92,152 miles.
